Conservation Field Days 2011
Conservation Field Days were scheduled again for all the 4th graders in Fayette
County on September 13th and 14th. But we did get rained out on the 14th, so I’m
sorry to the schools that didn’t get to attend this year. Sometimes getting the
event organized is a bit of a struggle, but if you ask me it can also be a
pleasure when you’re bringing together such a great bunch of people. After Tony
does his introductions each group is sent to their first presentation and the
event is off and running for the day. We want to thank each of these presenters
for all of their dedication and willingness to give of their busy time to teach
our students at yet another field day. And hopefully they will be just as
willing to assist again next year.
Presenters and subjects that we included this year included, Mary Grapperhaus,
IDNR, on forestry, a presentation on Watersheds, Amanda Hondel, ACOE, on Snakes,
Dave Holland, IDNR, on Gun Safety, Pam Doty and Annie Hickman, ACOE, on Water
Safety, Kim Taylor, Fayco Enterprises, on Recycling, Tony Pals, Fayette County
SWCD, on Soils, Bob Hammel, IDNR, on Wildlife and Gary Potts, IDNR, also did a
presentation on Wildlife.
Each presentation lasts about 20 minutes and the kids feel like they are goofing
off for the day but hopefully they will remember the things they learned for
quite some time.
